What is Windows Defender?

Microsoft Windows Defender is based on Giant AntiSpyware from the GIANT Company that Microsoft acquired in 2004, but was first released officially for the public on October 24, 2006.

Formerly called as Microsoft AntiSpyware, then Windows Defender, Microsoft Defender
is Microsoft’s proprietary anti-malware tool that is by default used in Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.

It is a protection program provided to protect PC Windows from malware and spyware. Since Windows 8, Microsoft added improved functionality to Windows Defender by adding antivirus protection, as well as spyware and other malware protection.

Although Windows 8 and 10 computers already have this program installed, other Windows users such as Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and Windows 7 can also use this program by downloading it for free.
